“Conversation. Is it this that makes us human? That separates us from our primal ancestors? Or separates us from each other? Over the past 5 months Lucy Haighton has been exploring these ideas and now presents Ruido, a dance theatre solo exploring language and communication barriers in the human world.
‘Ruido’ has emerged through a Research and Development project over the past 5 months funded by Arts Council England and Leeds Inspired (Leeds City Council). The project is research led and combines academic research and community practice alongside professional dance. Lucy has been able to gather research from community groups in both Sheffield and Leeds and academics from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. Alongside this research, Lucy has been working in the studio independently and collaborating with sound designer Alejandro Albornoz. Lucy has also joined the Sheffield University Sign Language Society to learn British Sign Language as has a strong interest in this communication system.”
