‘Striking Dilemmas’ combines three plays in one performance: ‘Scab!’, ‘The Blue Pawn’ and ‘Bands, Banners & Bitter Pills’’.
The pieces are centred on the Miners’ Strike of 1984-85 and its aftermath. They are offered as one show with ‘Scab’ and ‘The Blue Pawn’ playing in the first half and ‘Bands, Banners & Bitter Pills’ in the second half, allowing venues to hold a 15-20 minute interval.
Based on collections of true stories and, whilst not verbatim theatre as such, the source material is drawn from real people who lived through the events. March 2015 was the 30th anniversary of the miners’ return to work, yet today the aftermath of the strike and the personal and political fallout continues. ‘Striking Dilemmas’ offers dramatic, though-provoking and gripping spotlights on the personal experiences of those directly involved.
